We are looking for a Field assistant for summer 2026.
Project Description: Field and greenhouse research assistant is required to help with several projects in insect ecology. One study is focused on examining the effects of drought/warming on plant-insect interactions. Another project will be focused on examining the effects of warming on the monarch butterfly and its host plant- milkweed. Another will examine insect communities in urban greenspaces.
Location: This project will be conducted at the University of Ottawa with fieldwork in the National Capital Region. Responsibilities may include:
Assisting in fieldwork on butterflies, other insects, and their host plants.
Conducting butterfly feeding trials in the field or greenhouse.
General butterfly and plant rearing duties.
General data entry and bibliographic duties
Requirements:
Drivers licence (class G)
Must be detail-oriented and reliable to ensure accurate data collection and to ensure tracking of samples and data.
Workplace safety training (e.g. WHMIS) must be completed at the beginning of the work period.
Prior field and/or lab experience (particularly in ecology) would be an asset.
